ABOUT US

The Mary Knoll Refuge Inc is a non-profit benevolent institution, a registered charity and an incorporated body. Founded within the Catholic Faith it welcomes all people in a non-discriminatory manner.

The facility was designed and built by Adelaide builder, Maurice Hayek, with labour provided by more than 30 volunteers, mostly from Adelaide. This was a huge commitment in view of the distance from Adelaide.

The Mary Knoll Refuge Inc was officially opened in December 2002 by Bishop Eugene Hurley as a place of love, acceptance and hospitality.

The Board of Management of The Mary Knoll Refuge Inc meets quarterly, providing overall guidance and assuming corporate responsibility.

More recently the Mary Knoll Retreat Centre has been formed as a division of The Mary Knoll Refuge Inc, operating under the supervision of a local Management Team which meets on a monthly basis.

The local team acknowledges the contribution of all those who operated The Mary Knoll Refuge Inc from its conception in 1996 until the present day. This includes volunteers from Crystal Brook, Port Pirie and surrounding areas, Mary Flanagan, Kath Dempsey, Kathryn Taylor, Danny and Carla Shaw, and Margaret Zitzen who held the position of CEO for eight years.

The contribution of the late Mrs Molly Kerin, former Patron of Mary Knoll, is also gratefully acknowledged.
